I AM ANGRY AT GOD

Bose had just walked into the bedroom, when she noticed the mien of her husband- John.
“Is everything alright?” she asked.
“Yes” he answered cursorily.
Still disturbed, she came to the bed and looked him straight in the eyes and quizzed further “Are you sure? Because you don’t look like it”
“Hmm!” He sighed.
“Please tell me what the problem is.” Bose persisted. She is now getting worried. John had not been himself ever since he returned home some weeks earlier. He had completely lost interest in spiritual activities, which was unlike him. John was a very vibrant and committed Christian who does not take his prayers and study of the Bible lightly. His wife initially thought it was the stress of the journey and so she never bothered. “He will get over it”, she assumed. However, as days turned into weeks, she observed that things were getting worse as he sank deep into depression. Not someone who easily gives up, she urged him to disclose what he was thinking about. “This is unlike you. Have I done anything wrong?
“You have not offended me. It is God who has”, John replied.

Shocked by that response, she sat up and looked him straight in the eyes and exclaimed “what! How did God offend you?”
He had just lost his job a couple of weeks earlier. He was working in a different city from where his wife was. While travelling back home with his belongings, the commercial vehicle which he boarded was stopped and they were robbed at gunpoint. Included in the items stolen were his vital documents, his life savings among other things. He never mentioned this to his wife until now.
“How could God allow this to happen to me?” he said, after narrating the whole story to his wife.
“I pray. I pay my tithes and I serve God. Even if I make some mistakes, why should He take it on me like this? After all no one is perfect. Can’t he forgive me and forgo my errors. Must He punish me this way? I am angry at God” John said, pouring out his bitterness against God.
“What was your boss’ explanation for laying you off? “, Bose asked.
“The economy, of course!” John responded. “They said the company had not been doing well lately and that they need to downsize.” “Is it my fault that the company is not doing well? Why is it that I am the one to suffer for the sins of the whole world?”

Confused and dumbfounded, Bose stared him into the ground. She had always looked up to husband as a spiritual superman since they got married about a year ago. He practically had answers to all her spiritual questions.
“God! How do I comfort this man?” She mumbled. She kept on imagining what was going on in her husband’s mind. It is apparent that his ego is battered and he has lost his self confidence.

BEING ALIVE IS WORTH THANKING GOD FOR.
All of a sudden, she pinched him on his thigh. “Ouch! What did you do that for? John shouted. Wow! Can you still feel? She asked him. That is an indication that God is still good to you. What if you were shot and you died during the armed robbery attack? Or, suppose you had a fatal accident while coming back home. What will you be saying right now? Imagine what spot you would have kept me and your daughter, Shelia right now. While she was still chiding him, she remembered what she read from the Bible in the morning. She stood up from his side and went to the study to bring a brown leather bound New King James Version of the Bible. She pointed it at him and said, “Please open to 1 John 4:8 and read.

GOD LOVES YOU NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH.
Pissed off but not wanting to offend his wife whom he loves dearly, he collected the Bible, opened it and read aloud. “He that loves not knows not God; for God is love.” ‘That’s right! God is love.’ She interjected. “I want you to know that He is concerned about you. He is not a God who is not able to be touched by the feelings of our feeble flesh; He has been tested in all points as we ourselves are tested .Heb 4;15

YOUR CHALLENGE IS A TEST OF YOUR COMMITMENT TO GOD
Do you still remember the story of Job in the scriptures? God did allow Satan pummel him to prove the commitment of Job to God. God knew Job would be able to withstand all the challenges. God will never put on you more than you can bear. Don’t you disappoint God this time.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY IN TRYING TIMES I am sure you are not just a fair-weather son of God. Please have this commitment to say I will yet trust in him, even though he slays me. God did not promise us a smooth ride in this journey of life. There will be mountain of goodness and valleys of the shadow of death. It doesn’t matter what the situation is, his presence is guaranteed. He has promised that he will always be with us. He is nearest, when it is toughest. Job had an attitude of worship, so should you. This is a phase of our lives and it will soon fade out.”
While his wife was still speaking, John was already shedding tears. “I am sorry, Lord. It is just that I am pained but I know you will take away my pains”, he sobbed. He knelt at the edge of the bed, his wife alongside and they both asked God to forgive them and restored the joy of the salvation.
